BODIES OF WATER

Bodies of Water is a series of underwater self-portraits created while free-diving in the Mediterranean Sea, exploring what happens to the body and our perception of it once submerged.

Beneath the surface, familiar points of reference disappear. Freed from gravity, the body seems to fly underwater, suspended between surface and depth. Contours soften, light moves across the skin, and the body gradually blends into its surroundings.

 

Stripped of clothing and social markers, it becomes simply another living form within this underwater world. Immersion becomes an act of letting go. A return home, both intimate and primordial: to the Mediterranean where I was born, and, further back, to the sea from which life first emerged, as though the body were remembering that it too once belonged to water.

Continuing my exploration of thresholds and dualities, in this series I shift my focus to the boundaries between photographer and subject, observer and observed, body and water, self and environment, and to their gradual dissolution.
